A great marathon debut for Emory Bumgardner! She was on pace for a 3:30 until the humidity and cramps caused her to slow down.
Finishing in 3:54:12, Emory is ready for the next marathon!
Just a freshman at OU and already tackling on the 26.2 distance is a great achievement!

A BIG shoutout to Andrea for having a stellar debut marathon! Running a 3:25:42 is no joke for @okcmarathon and how warm and muggy it was.
Andrea had a great buildup and learned so much as each week went by! I can’t wait to see what Andrea can do in a flat marathon course!

Testimonials
"Coach Chavez is one of the best people I have met through the running world and I had the opportunity to be coached by him. He took me from a freshman struggling to stay on varsity to a 3x all-state runner. Not only does he improve your times he also helps you make meaningful connections with other athletes around Oklahoma.”
Josh Cherry, University of Oklahoma XC/Track
"Coach Chavez is the most personable and understanding coach. He checks in on me after my runs to see how I felt, keeps up with my running life and personal life and never gets upset when I have a bad workout or when life just gets in the way of running. He writes workouts for me every week that pertain to what I need. Although he is coaching many athletes, his coaching style makes me feel like he really cares about me individually through running and through life. Since I have worked with Coach Chavez, the progress that has been made through running and my attitude towards this sport is drastic. He has impacted me so positively in my growth as a person. He is always so positive and willing to be there for me and I am so thankful for that!! He makes running FUN!!"
Kinley Kite, Oklahoma Christian University XC/Track
"Oklahoma Project worked with my hectic schedule and made a program tailored specifically to me. Communication and responsiveness from Coach Chavez exceeded expectations while developing a friendship and base for future successes. Before signing onto Oklahoma Project, I ran the same time in three consecutive marathons. With coaching from Luis Chavez, I was able to smash my plateau and record a 27 minute personal best in my most recent marathon!"
Mack Jensen, 2:58 Marathoner
“I’ve been training with OKPJT for 2 years and I’ve had PR’s in just about every distance, from the mile to the marathon! Not only have I improved my time goals, but I’ve also had the most fun doing it. Coach Chavez is great about listening to how I’m feeling, providing knowledge and support, and adjusting plans/goals around all of the ups and downs in life. Cannot recommend OKPJT enough!”
Addie Ryan, 2:58 Marathoner
I can’t say enough great things about OK Project and Coach Luis Lopez. After having my child, I struggled to return to competitive running and no matter how hard I trained, my times weren’t getting faster. Coach Lopez listened to my goals, my needs as a runner, and my limits as a mom with a full time job. He developed a personal training plan that built on my strengths and helped me to address some of my deficiencies. In 10 months with OK Project, I got a personal record in the 5k and half marathon, finished as first female at 2 5ks, and got several age group wins. Most importantly, he coached me to TWO Boston Qualifying marathon times in 2024. With the ongoing support of Coach Lopez and the training plans of OK Project, as a master’s runner, I’m running times I haven’t seen since my years as a collegiate athlete!
